Linux Versus Windows
Some folks have requested that the software be ported to a Windows-based platform. Oh, how I wish I could do that. Why? Because it would virtually double my potential customer base upon release. Already I'm having challenges with only having a PHP4 version available when so many people are migrating to PHP5. (Not to worry... the PHP5 version will be available in about a month.)
The challenge, I suppose, comes from the fact that Linux, and in fact ALL *NIX-based platforms, have a couple of unique bits of technology that facilitate the creation of Dynamic URLS without much incident. The magic technology, you ask? Quite simply, .htaccess and mod_rewrite.
There is some similar technologies out there being introduced for Windows platforms, and it comes by way of open-source no less! It's something called Isapi-rewrite, and it is supposed to perform the same functions as the Unix-based mod rewrite. I reference the technology in the User Manual and install guide. I've never used it personally.
I guess the long and the short of it is, we have to crawl before we can walk, right? It is an absolute disappointment that I have to make a choice between one technology or the other; it's a starting point though - it's not the final destination.
If anyone wants to discuss collaborating on a Windows-based platform, I'm all ears! In the meantime, please let me know what you think of our work so far! Download a free trial today -- or buy the full version and get going!
