FTP and File Settings - LITE & FULL VERSIONS

You would have received the files as a *.zip compressed archive. Unzip the files using a file decompression utilility like Winzip or UltimateZip. The resulting decompressed archive should be a folder named Dynamic-URLS. All the files that you need to run the basic version of the script are contained in the folder.

Using FTP software such as CuteFTP, SmartFTP or WS_FTP, you’ll need to upload all the files to an appropriately configured web server, or to a subfolder or sub-domain on your webserver. Upload all the files in the “Binary” or “Auto” mode.

• Images/ - folder. This is a common name for a folder and may overwrite some files on your server if you are not careful.
• Install/ - folder. This is a common name for a folder and may overwrite some files on your server if you are not careful
• Purl_admin/ - folder
• .htaccess – If this file exists already, you may have to copy and paste the contents of the supplied file into your existing file. The system tries to protect you against overwriting this file, but there are no guarantees. Back up your .htaccess file if you have it.
• Install.php - This is a common name for a folder and may overwrite some files on your server if you are not careful.
• Favicon.ico - This is a common name for a folder and may overwrite some files on your server if you are not careful
• Index.html - This is a common file name for websites. If you have a file with this name, it WILL be overwritten by our software. Back it up.
• Instructions.html – Not a very common name for a file.
• Invalid.html - Not a very common name for a file.
• License.txt – Good to back up any files with the same name.
• Purl.php – Not a very common name for a file.

The image above illustrates uploading the files to the root directory (i.e.: base of the domain / no subfolder)

There are at least TWO folders that you’ll need to change permissions on (i.e. CHMOD 777).
These are:

• root_directory/
OR the folder that you installed the Dynamic URLS application
(i.e.: www.domain.com/THIS_FOLDER/)
• /purl_admin/

You will also need:
• The name of Your MySQL Database
• The Administrator Login to the MySQL Database
• The Administrator Password to the MySQL Database
• The MySQL database hostname (only if it is different from ‘localhost’)

• Setting folder permissions to CHMOD 777 – these are additional tasks required to ensure proper operation of the software:
